Wish we could talk more ...

My Todays Topic is

Wish we could talk more ...

Excessive dependence on technology has made people lonely.   Too much automation has led to loneliness.  Surprisingly many morning tours can be executed without interacting with anyone.

When earlier for every small thing we needed to communicate we used to be expressive in thoughts and behaviour ... so observant.  But today we hardly have time to look up see and andmire what people around us are doing or even what they are wearing.  Most of us are living solo doing our work solo.  For example activities like watching TV buying groceries banking transaction and many more no longer categorised as a social activities.  They have become solo.  Undoubtedly loneliness is the biggest problem of this millennium.  To tackle this problem British PM has come up with an unique idea of appointing a Minister for loneliness.  If they are successful other countries might also follow suit.

It is in developed countries that people are particularly affected with loneliness.  But this is spreading at an alarming rate because other countries blindly immitate the best developed countries.  The Western lifestyle is adding fuel to fire.  In countries like India the problem seems to be alarming too.  The India's National Sample Survey office (NSSO) indicated in 2004 that 1.23 million men and 3.68 million women are living alone and faced loneliness.

With a demographic transition trend in India, the problem of loneliness can be termed as an epidemic.  There has been a fall in the death rate thereby ballooning the population of senior citizen both in relative and absolute numbers. (53% or 12.5 million in 1951 to 7.6% of 92 million in 2011 respectively). The changing lifestyle, too much automation, mini nuclear families can be the breeders of loneliness as stated by  Siri S C Tyagi of king George Medical College Lucknow in the Indian Journal of psychiatry.

The solution lies in us, wish we could talk more and more, had more people to people contact.  Often going to banks grocery stores bill payments railway ticket and not leave any opportunity where we could interact with people.  Emphasis could be laid on development in social skills in children in schools so that they grow up to become sensible talkative adults.  Focus could be on developing very comfortable safe community places, transportation system etc where people can spend some time with other people.

We could start from our homes itself.  If only we switched off our mobiles, TV and other such loneliness promoting appliances we could save ourselves from getting affected by this disease.  So finally wish we could talk more ...
